Environmental Management and Protected Species Policy

Purpose. Sets how the business protects the marine environment, the seabed under its leases, water quality and protected species during farming, fishing and processing.
1.Commitment
Coastline will farm and fish within its licence and lease conditions, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and state fisheries and environment laws, and will report environmental monitoring results honestly. The business aims to reduce feed waste, fuel use, plastic waste and processing waste each year.
2.Lease environmental monitoring
Seabed, sediment and water quality under and around the sea cages must be monitored at the frequency in the licence and reported to the aquaculture regulator annually. Cages must be fallowed and rotated in line with the lease management plan to allow the seabed to recover.
3.Feed and waste
Feed must be given to the feed plan and stopped when feeding response drops, to limit uneaten feed reaching the seabed. Mortalities, processing offal and shell must be disposed of through the approved waste contractor or the rendering and composting arrangements, never at sea.
4.Protected species
Seals, dolphins, sea lions, sharks, seabirds and turtles are protected. Fishing gear must be set and hauled to reduce interactions, bycatch reduction devices must be fitted to trawl gear as required, and entangled animals must be released alive where safe. Every interaction, including sightings within the gear, must be recorded on the Protected Species Interaction Report Form and reported to the fisheries regulator in the catch report.
5.Fuel, oil and chemicals
Refuelling must follow the vessel refuelling procedure with spill kits at hand. Any spill to water must be contained, reported to the master or site manager and recorded in the WHS Incident and Hazard Register, and reported to the environment protection authority where required.
6.Waste and packaging
Nets, ropes and polystyrene must be recycled through the approved programs. Processing must use the waste utilisation strategy for frames, heads and shell, and the business will report waste volumes quarterly.
